Laurance- I give up! I simply can't learn French!

Soony- Why do you say that? I think you're making a lot of progress.

Laurance- No, I'm not. I try and try and I still can't speak it very well.

Soony- Learning any language takes a lot of effort. But don't give up. Why don't we practice those dialogs together?

Laurance- Good idea. That just might help.

1）give up=stop trying,不再做努力。与keep up trying是一对反义词组。
2）make progress：是固定搭配。意思是取得进步/进展
3）take a lot of effort:take在这里有“需要”“花费”的意思。
