（1）先行词指地点
where引导定语从句时，其先行词必须是表示地点的名词，如place，house等。
a. — Since you work in the theater, can’t you get me a free ticket now and then?
—既然你在剧院工作，你能否时常给我拿一些免费的票？
— Certainly if you bring me a few notes now and then from the bank where you work!
— 没问题，只要你能在你工作的那家银行时常给我拿出一些“票子”。
b. Do you know any place where I can buy Clint’s grammar book?
c. Do you know any place at which I can buy Clint’s grammar book?
d. This is the town where（= in which） I spent my childhood.
e. This is the restaurant where I often have my breakfast.
（2）关系副词where在从句中作地点状语
注意：与when类似，并非所有先行词表示地点的情况下，都得用where来引导定语从句。这得看关系词在从句中所充当的成分。where在定语从句中作地点状语，但若定语从句缺主语或宾语，就要用which或that来引导。
例句
a. This is the town where I spent my childhood.
b. This is the town which I told you about before. （which作about的宾语）
c. The library where students often study was on fire last night.
d. The library, which was built in the 1930’s, needs to be renovated.（which作从句的主语）
e. One of the places which I want to visit someday is Tibet. （which作visit的宾语）
