Kim Won Hong was dismissed as minister for state security last month following a probe by the country’s Workers’ party, the South Korean government said on Friday.

Mr Kim was a close aide of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who defectors and experts say has doubled down on the brutal and repressive policies of his father and grandfather, the country’s two previous leaders.
