     As is depicted in the cartoon, there are trees, flowers and birds as well as a car. It seems to suggest that humankind and nature are coexisting peacefully.
     Human activity in itself does not need to necessarily harm the Earth and the environment. Some human activities can and do make the Earth a better place to live. Unfortunately, however, sometimes it seems that human activities have done more harm than good to the Earth and all living things on it. This should certainly not be our aim as we seek to balance economic development and environmental protection. Both need to go hand in hand if we are to progress and live peacefully together. It is this awareness that our destinies are entwined together in mutual need of dependency that is vital today.
     Being aware of our responsibility to our environment and our desire to progress economically does not mean that one should suffer at the expense of the other. Both are equally needed.

     人类活动本身不一定要危害地球和环境。有些人类活动可以--也确实--使地球成为了一个更适宜居住的地方。不过遗憾的是，有时人类的活动似乎对地球及地球上的所有生物弊大于利。这当然不应该是我们的目标，因为我们寻求的是经济发展和环境保护之间的平衡。如果我们想进步并和平地生活在一起，这两方面需要齐头并进。我们的命运交织在一起、相互依存，认识到这一点在今天极为重要。
     认识到我们对环境的责任以及我们对经济发展的渴望并不意味着发展一方面要以损害另一方面为代价。两方面我们都同等需要。
