    Kate: Hello, I'd like to speak to Mr. Hill, please.

    Hill: Hill speaking.

    Kate: This is Kate Morrison. You remember me, don't you?

    Hill: Of course, I do. What's the matter? Has anything happened?

    Kate: I don't want to bother you, but I'm worried.

    Hill: Well, if you are worried at half past seven in the morning, you must be very worried.

    Kate: We've got examinations next month.

    Hill: Oh, I see. Well, everybody worries about examinations.

    Kate: But I may fail, and my parents may want me to go back to Canada. They may not send me any more money.

    Hill: You won't fail, though of course you may fail if you don't work at all. You must begin straight away. You are an intelligent young woman and the first year examinations aren't very difficult, I know. I've written one of them myself.

    Kate: But I don't feel intelligent.

    Hill: Nobody feels intelligent at this time in the morning.One of your teachers was talking to me about you. You can pass the examination.

    Kate: Are you sure?

    Hill: Of course, I am. If you worry you may fail, so you mustn't worry. Your teacher isn't worried about you. He told me himself.

    Kate: You've helped me a lot. I feel more confident now.Would you like to come to another party here tonight? Some of our friends are coming to listen to some music. Penny and I don't want to stay at home by ourselves this evening.

    Hill: Another party? You must be mad. But thank you for the invitation. I'll come if I can. Of course, you won't pass the examination if you have parties every night, Now, please let me get back to bed.
