口语中，如果一个单词中的/n/之后紧跟着一个辅音，这个辅音一般会受到/n/的影如：
winter/ˈwɪntə/冬季，/t/受到/n/的影响不发音，读作/ˈwɪnə/，与winner的发音刚好相同;
Internet/'ɪntɛ:net/网络，/t/受到/n/的影响不发音，读为/'ɪntɛ:ne/;
twenty/'twentɪ/二十，/n/后面的/t/不发音，读作/'twenɪ/;
我们可以将/n/看作是一个“消音器”，辅音只要出现在它后面，就休想再出声。
