21. 环境问题
China is confronted with many environmental issues which severely affect China's environment as well as human health. An increasing population, rapid economic growth and weak environmental supervision have increased water demand and pollution. Desertification is also a serious problem. More and more arable land is becoming desolated. China has responded to these issues with increasing environmental regulations. Pollutant treatment infrastructure has been built. These measures have brought about certain environmental improvements.
中国面临着很多环境问题。这些问题严重影响了中国的环境和人们的身体健康。日益增长的人口、快速的经济增长和薄弱的环境监督都造成了水需求量的增加和水污染。沙漠化（desertification）也是一个严重的问题。越来越多的耕地正在失去生长植物的能力。中国已经采取增加环境法规的方式来回应这些问题。污染物处理设施已经建成。这些都带来了一定的环境改善。
