        在1994年涅槃王朝(Nirvana)崩塌之后，朋克音乐复兴与另类流行摇滚乐当道的时候，Green Day乐队也一跃成为了这股风潮的中流砥柱，成为了90年代以后最受欢迎的摇滚乐队之一，也是美国流行乐朋克复兴中最有影响的乐队之一。

       2009年5月15日，greenday第八张专辑21st Century Breakdown在美国上市。在全美上市3天内，这张专辑便售出了21万5千张，在Billboard 200专辑榜中空降冠军。其中21 Guns被电影《变形金刚2》收录。 　　21st Century Breakdown是美国流行庞克乐队Green Day的第八张录音专辑，于二零零九年五月十五日全球发行，获得2010年格莱美最佳摇滚专辑。Green Day于二零零六年开始构思21st Century Breakdown。专辑主题主要围绕宗教、战争、爱及社会问题，而反战主题将会减少，整张专辑共有十六首歌曲更会被分为三部分"Heroes and Cons," "Charlatans & Saints"以及"Horseshoes & Hand grenades."专辑音乐风格加入一些经典的摇滚。专辑的封面是专辑的男女主角克瑞斯坦与格罗瑞亚在亲吻。这次更遍向强力流行乐。
