表示数目多少或先后顺序的词被称为数词。数词有基数词和序数词两种。数词在句子中可作主语、宾语、表语、定语和同位语等成分。

（1）1—12的基数词为独立的单词，13—19的基数词都以后缀-teen结尾，但13 thirteen，15 fifteen，18 eighteen与其他结构有差别，拼写时要特别留意。

（2）20—90之间的整十位数词均以后缀-ty结尾，但20 twenty，30 thirty，40 forty，50 fifty，80 eighty与其他结构有区别，拼写时要注意。

（3）“几十几”的基数词是由整十位数加个位数合成，且两者之间要用连字符“-”连接。如21 twenty-one，38 thirty-eight，55 fifty-five，97 ninety-seven，76 seventy-six等。

（4）100以上的基数词在拼写和拼读时要在百位数和十位数之间加and，如果十位数为零，则百位数和个位数之间加and。如：230 two hundred and thirty；502 five hundred and two；621 six hundred and twenty-one；999 nine hundred and ninety-nine等。

巧记100以内的基数词

基数词，不难记，找出规律很容易；

一至十二词各异，需要大家逐个记；

后加teen表十几，thirteen，fifteen看仔细；

18提醒要注意，eighteen只有一个t；

后加ty整几十，twenty，eighty重点记；

forty没有字母u，thirty，fifty像十几；

二十以后加个位，表示数字几十几；

数字顺排虽容易，连字符号“-”莫丢弃；

遇到几百几十几，and把百与十系（ji）；

（5）1000以上的数字，从后往前，每三位数有一个半空码或逗号分隔，第一个三位数空码或逗号为“千”thousand，第二个三位数半空码或逗号为“百万”million，第三个三位数半空码或逗号为“十亿”billion。如：4，860读作four thousand eight hundred and sixty（四千八百六十）；5，632，867读作five million six hundred and thirty-two thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven（五百六十三万两千八百六十七）；1，390，000，000读作one billion three hundred and ninety million（十三亿九千万）等。

（6）英语中没有“万”和“亿”这两个词。“几十千”表示“几万”；“几百个千”表示“几十万”；“几百个百万”表示“几亿”。如：12，256读作twelve thousand two hundred and fifty-six（一万两千二百五十六）；245，631读作two hundred and forty-five thousand six hundred and thirty-one（二十四万五千六百三十一）。380，000，000读作three hundred and eighty million（三十八亿）。

注意：

①hundred（百），thousand（千），million（百万），billion（十亿）与基数词连用时，hundred，thousand，million，billion用单数形式，不可用复数。如：two hundred二百；three thousand三千；six million六百万等；

②hundred，thousand，million，billion后与of连用表示约数时，hundred，thousand，million，billion需用复数。如：hundreds of people数百人；thousands of trees成千上万棵树；millions of books数百万本书。

③hundred，thousand，million，billion等词其前用了基数词，其后不能再与of短语连用。
