二、whether与if的区别

1.引导宾语从句时，意为“是否”，可互换。

Ask him whether/if he can come.问他能不能来。

2.介词之后的宾语从句中只用whether。

I haven’t settled the question of whether I’ll go back home.

我还没有解决是否回家的问题。

3.引导主语从句、表语从句、同位语从句时，只用whether。

It was a problem whether they would support us.

他们是否会支持我们还是一个问题。（主语从句）

The question is whether he can do it.问题是他能不能做。（表语从句）

Answer my question whether you can help him.

回答我你是否能帮助他。（同位语从句）

4.在动词discuss 后只用 whether。

We discussed whether we should hold a meeting.我们讨论了是否要开一个会。
