四、习惯用法上的省略

1.在疑问句的回答中谓语动词多省略

— Can Sophia swim？ 苏菲亚会游泳吗？

— No，She can’t （swim）.不，她不会。

She cried last night，didn’t she （cry）？ 她昨晚在哭，不是吗？

2.以what，how或why 开头的某些问句中

Why not？ 为什么不？

Why so？ 为什么这样？

3.what和how引导的感叹句中，常省略主语与谓语

What a beautiful sight （it is）！多美的景色！

How wonderful （it was）to be treated like a normal child！

像一个正常的孩子一样被对待，那是多么美好啊！

4.表示住宅、店铺、教堂等名词所有格后的名词常常省略

She is going to her uncle’s （house）.她要去她舅舅家。

Today I met her at the tailor’s （shop）.今天我在裁缝店碰见她了。
