    WHO: Ebola Vaccine Could Be in Use by January

    The World Health Organization said an experimental Ebola vaccine could be available by January.

    Dr. Marie Paule Kieny, the WHO assistant director, said that trials, or tests, of the vaccines are to take place soon in Europe, the United States, and Africa.

    Dr. Kieny spoke to reporters in Geneva, Switzerland, Tuesday. She said if the vaccines were considered safe, there could be a trial in West Africa by next January. The trial would include tens of thousands of individual vaccine treatments.

    Dr. Kieny did not say when an Ebola vaccine might be widely available.

    North Korea releases American prisoner

    North Korea has release American Jeffrey Fowle from prison. It continues to hold two other Americans.

    U.S. officials said Tuesday that Mr. Fowle had left North Korea and was on his way home. North Korean police arrested him earlier this year after he left a Bible in a North Korean restaurant. He never went to trial, however.

    The U.S. State Department said it welcomed Mr. Fowle's release. And it said the U.S. government will continue to work for the release of Americans Matthew Miller and Kenneth Bae.

    The two were detained in separate cases, tried and found guilty. They are both serving prison sentences.

    Pistorius Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

    South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to five years in prison for the deadly shooting of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

    The runner shot and killed Ms. Steenkamp at his home in February 2013. He told a South African court that the shooting was a mistake. He said he thought his girlfriend was anintruder.
