Welcome to the latest global news recorded at midnight 00:30 GMT on Friday, the 1st of November. I am Jackie Leonard with a selection of highlights from across BBC World Service News today.

Coming up, reports from the US of an Israeli airstrike on a Syrian military base in the port of Latakia. Meanwhile international inspectors say all of Syria’s known equipment needed to produce chemical weapons has been destroyed. Our correspondent Lise Touset has been to a region ravaged by the conflict. “You come to a neighborhood like this. You know, what kind of weapons Syrians are worried about, not the chemical weapons but the weapons that caused the damage that is all around me.”

Also a guilty plea in New York in the largest international money laundry prosecution in history; the alleged video at the center of crack cocaine allegations concerning a man of Toronto; and later the woman whose hi-tech eyewear landed her in hot hostile with police in California. “He wasn't in a very nice mood. His position was odd taken and he already came with infraction in the ticket. So he already wrote in the ticket that I was driving with Google Glass.”

We first heard on Thursday morning that there has been an explosion at a Syrian army base outside the coastal city of Latakia. The base is thought to hold Russian-made missiles. And local media at the time pointing the finger is Israel, blaming Israel isn't unusual in the Arab world, except that an American official has now told BBC it was indeed Israel that launched the airstrike and the Russian missiles were the target. Neither Israel nor Syria have not said anything yet.. So we got more details from Gimieu, our corespondent in Beirut.

“There have been reports and rumors circulating throughout the day in the region talking about explosions on a Syrian air defence base, just the north of Latakia which is up on the coast in what’s regarded as a kind of Alawite hot land , very much loyal to the regime. And reports sent on the Arab TV stations like Al Arabiya which is Saudi owned said that it was indeed Israeli airstrike hitting Russian surface-to-air missiles possibly destined for his blast. And now American defense officials are actually more or less saying the same thing.”
