As we had had a long walk through one of themarkets of old Delhi, we stopped at a square to havea rest. After a time, we noticed a snake charmer withtwo large baskets at the other side of the square, sowe went to have a look at him. As soon as he sawus, he picked up a long pipe which was covered withcoins and opened oneof the baskets. When he beganto play a tune, wehad our first glimpse of the snake.It rose out of the basketand began to follow themovements of the pipe. We were very muchsurprised when the snake charmer suddenly began to play jazz and modern pop songs. Thesnake, however, continued to 'dance' slowly. It obviouslycould not tell the differencebetween Indian music and jazz!
