C: Excuse me, I'd like to have these pants I bought here yesterday altered. Here's my receipt.

S: Certainly, sir. What would you like done to them?

C: They're a little bit too long, so I'd like about half an inch taken off them.

a pair of pants 一条裤子

因为裤子有两条裤管，所以恒用复数。其他类似用法尚有scissors(剪刀，

有两片刀片)，trousers(长裤，有两条裤管)，glasses(眼镜，有两片镜片)。
