According to researchers, the project is called PANOSETI(Panoramic Search for Extraterrestrial Civilizations),and it is expected to install hundreds of telescopes. If the final assembly is completed, the project will become the first dedicated observatory that can continuously search for optical or infrared signals. The two telescopes deployed this time will provide astronomers with a new window to understand the universe on a nanosecond time scale.
This pulse signal that occurs on the nanosecond to second time scale may come from human activities, such as alien communications;it may also come from astrophysical phenomena, such as fast radio pulses."Signals from advanced civilizations may be rare and short-lived,so long-term observations of large areas of the sky are required,"the researchers said.
