beat a dead horse

这是一个非正式的口语用语。这个表达的一个变体是flog A dead horse。beat和flog都有“打”的意思。通常指试图解决一个已经解决了的问题而做出的努力。这个短语的意思就是“做无用功，做徒劳无益的事”。

A: I can’t believe that they are going to tear down our old house!我不敢相信他们要拆掉我们的老房子

B: I know, but the house was old.我知道，但是那房子很老了。
