Guatapé is a beautiful city in Colombia that is known for its bright coloring and beautiful art. From the moment visitors enter the city they are welcomed with a handcrafted, unique sign and encouraged down the road with bright paints and tile work. Every part of the town features a bright paint job and whimsical design.

Beyond the bright colors that playfully cover the building fronts the town is also especially known for its 3D art pieces and paintings at the base of all of the buildings, or zocalos. The Zocalos pull the creative inspiration together across the town and make artwork accessible in the streets. The drawings range from sprawling swirls and renditions of the townscape to traditional animal portraits and some of the best sculpture zocalos are human masks that stick out of the building bases. There is a unique vibrancy that sets this town apart!

Just outside of the town there is some unique history to explore as well with a gigantic rock formation that features an exposed vertical face standing 200 meters high which visitors can scale up to find food vendors and a viewing area. From the manmade lake nearby visitors can also see the top of the cross of the old Guatape Church poking out of the water!
