34　aged，elder和elderly

① aged意为“年老的，老的”，表示年岁已高，含有衰弱之意;aged还可表示“……岁的”，常作表语。

She helped take care of her aged grandfather. 她帮助照顾年迈的祖父。

The sick and the aged need our help. 病人和老年人需要我们的帮助。

He was aged six when he went to school. 他6岁上学。

② elder意为“年纪较长的”，指家庭兄弟姐妹之间的年龄较长者，也可表示一群人中年龄较大者。

My elder brother is a teacher. 我哥哥是个教师。

③ elderly意为“上了年纪的，中年以上的”，有虽渐入老境但不失尊严之意。

Her father is getting elderly now and can't walk very fast. 她父亲已年迈，不能走得很快。

We should respect elderly people. 我们应该尊敬上了年岁的人。
