① cast off丢弃；放船，发船。

We cast off and set sail at 8 am. 我们上午8点钟解缆起航。

② cast away

（1）扔掉，丢掉，浪费掉

cast away one's time 浪费时间

（2）（通常用被动式）使（船难中幸存者）漂流到。

The sailors were cast away on a desert island. 因船失事，水手们流落到一个荒岛上。

③ cast down（通常用被动式）气馁，沮丧。
