189　country和countryside

① country表示“乡间”时，侧重于区别城市与城镇的乡间、乡下，即没有建筑物覆盖的土地，是不可数名词，前面要用定冠词the，如：in the country（在乡下）；country表示“国家”时是可数名词，如：a country（一个国家），many countries（许多国家）。

我不喜欢都市生活；我喜欢住在乡下。

I don't enjoy city life；I love to live in a country.

Switzerland is a beautiful country. 瑞士是个美丽的国家。

② countryside用于泛指一切乡村地域或居民。

The English countryside looks its best in May and June. 英国乡村在五、六月间景色最美。
