① be over中的over是形容词，表示“结束”，相当于finished，指某件事本身已经结束。

The affair is over now. 这件事现在已经了结了。

The meeting was over when I got there. 我到达那里时，会议已经结束了。

② be up表示时间上的结束，意为“完结的，耗尽了”，如规定某次演讲一个小时，一个小时的时间到了，就是time is up。

Now time is up. Class is over. 现在时间已到，下课。

When the five weeks was up，everybody was sad that he had to leave. 五个星期满了，大家都为他终将离去而感到难过。

He knew his game was up. 他知道他的把戏完了。
