① proof指直接的确实证据，不容置疑的证据。

His actions were proof that he was telling the truth. 他的行动就是他说实话的证明。

② evidence作“证据”解时，为不可数名词，指或对或错的事实，但并不能确切证明究竟是对是错，多指与法律诉讼有关的证物、见证。

Running away was evidence of his guilt. 逃跑是他犯罪的证据。

作“迹象，形迹”解时，evidence亦可作可数名词。

There are evidences that somebody ever lived here. 有迹象表明，有人曾住在这里。
