1. 用作情态动词：
1）need后接动词原形。
I don't think you need take it too seriously.
我认为你没有必要太认真。
2）need没有人称和数的变化。
—Need we do it all alone at once？
—No, we needn't .
——我们需要马上独自做此事吗？
——不，不必了。
3）need多用在疑问句和否定句中。
—Need you go yet？
—Yes, I must .

Need they have done that yesterday?

4）needn't have done表示过去没有必要做某事而实际上已经做了。

5）need疑问句, 其回答与must疑问句的回答一样。

2. need作实意动词：
1）后可接名词或代词。
We are certain to need help .
我们当然需要帮助。
In winter all of us need warm clothes .

2）后可接不定式。
I don't think you need to hurry up ; it is still early.
我认为你没必要这么匆忙，还早着呢。
The house needs to be repaired .

3）后可接动名词，这时动名词与主语成被动关系: need doing= need to be done。
The house needs repairing/to be repaired .

4）后可接复合宾语。
I need you to come to help me with my children.
我需要你来帮我照料孩子。
