227　too much, much too, too many和very much

1　too much 本结构中的much是形容词，意为“许多，大量的”，too修饰形容词原级much，表示强调，所以much是中心词，too是much的状语。

（1）too much可以单独使用，作主语或宾语，意为“太多”，这时，much为名词。too much也可作状语，表示“过多，太多”，修饰动词。

（2）too much也可修饰不可数名词，意为“太多的”，这时much为形容词。

If you eat too much , you will get fat. 如果你吃得太多，就会发胖。

He has too much work to do. 他有太多的工作要做。

Don't drink too much wine. 不要喝太多的酒。

Watching TV too much is bad for your health. 看电视过多对身体有害。

2　much too 结构中的too是副词，意为“太”，much修饰too，表示强调，所以too是中心词，much是too的状语。much too 不可单独使用，后面要跟形容词或副词原级。

It is much too cold today. 今天太冷了。（比too cold更强调 ）

The shirt is much too dear. 这件衬衫太贵了。

The little boy walked much too slow. 这小男孩走得太慢了。

He is much too strict with the students. （正）他对学生的要求太严格了 。

He is too much strict with the students. （误）

3　too many 作形容词用，修饰可数名词复数。

He failed his exam because he missed too many lessons. 他没考及格，因为他缺课太多。

There are too many people waiting for the bus there. 那里有太多的人在等公交车。

4　very much 意为“非常，很”，为副词短语，修饰动词，表示程度。

I like the book very much . 我非常喜欢这本书。
