459　pause和stop

1　pause 指短暂的停止，且含有再进行之意。

He paused to tie his shoes. 他停下来系鞋带。

He took a pause for a moment, and then continued. 他停顿片刻，然后继续讲下去。

2　stop 为一般用语，特指停止做某事，如：活动、前进等；stop 表示结束，有短期或突然停止的意味，还表示“使……停下”。stop 后可接不定式或动名词，但意义往往有差异。

She stopped to read the article. 她停下来读这篇文章。（停止做别的事，来读这篇文章 ）

She stopped reading the article when she saw me coming. 她看见我来就停止读那篇文章了。（不再读那篇文章了 ）

Let's wait till the rain stops . 我们等到雨停再走。

He stopped smoking. 他不再吸烟了。

She raised her hand to stop the cab. 她举起手要出租车停下。

Jack was running too fast to stop himself. 杰克跑得太快，收不住脚。
