gaze, glare, stare辨析
 
三个词均可表示“注视”、“凝视”、“盯着看”，区别如下：
1. gaze 指长时间地凝视，通常带有惊讶、赞赏、迷恋等含义。如：
We stood gazing at the falls. 我们站着凝视着那瀑布。
For hours he sat gazing at the stars. 好几个小时他坐在那儿凝望着天上的星星。
He gazed at me for a long time before he recognized who I was. 他注视着我，好久才认出我是谁。
2. glare 指怒目而视，常含有生气或威胁之意，主要强调愤怒、敌意等。如：
The angry father glared at his son. 这个生气的父亲怒视着儿子。
They didn’t fight, but stood there glaring at each other. 他们没有动武，只是站在那里怒目对视。
3. stare 指睁大眼睛看，含有好奇、诧异、无礼、恐惧等意味。如：
It’s rude to stare at people. 盯着人看是不礼貌的。
They all stared in amazement. 他们都惊讶得睁大了眼睛。
He was staring out over the fields. 他目不转睛地看着外面的田野。
注：stare 和 gaze 均可表示长时间的注视，但比较而言，stare 更强调注意力集中、睁大眼睛、目不转睛地看。
