贴春联是咱们中华民族过春节的传统习俗。你见过英文的春联吗？最近，李开复在微博上贴了一副英文的春联。如图所示：

上联是：Eat well sleep well have fun day by day.
下联是：Study hard work hard make money more and more.
横批：Gelivable.

连我们门上贴的“福”都是用Luck 来写的。

上下联都是中补结构的短语，可以说是把英文和中文的文化很好的结合在了一起。不过我们中文的“福”字所代表的含义，总觉得一个luck 还不能很好的概括出来。

春联的英文表达：

春联：Spring Festival Scrolls

这里的“scroll”指的就是“卷轴；画卷”，比如说：Most Chinese pictures are painted on silk scrolls.（中国画大都是画在绢卷轴上的。）同时，它还可以表示“名册”的意思，比如说：be entered in the scrolls of history（名垂史册）

那么，“上联”、“下联”、“横批”又该怎么说呢？

可不能把“上”、“下”直译成“up”和“down”哟。事实上，我们“the left scroll”、“the right scroll”、以及“the top scroll”来分别指这三个意思。

除去“春联”，一般性的“对联”，我们叫做“couplet”，表示的就是通常说的“对句”啦。所以，“春联”还可以叫做“Spring Festival Couplets”哟。比如人民网中这样描述春联：

Spring Festival couplets consist of two paper scrolls, inscribed with auspicious sayings, pasted vertically on either side of the door. A shorter horizontal scroll is often pasted across the top. Like images of door gods, Spring Festival couplets were thought to protect the household from evil.
