BEIJING (AP) — Officials in Beijing haveannounced anew environmental police squad to root out illegalburning in thecity, the latest government responseto the widespread public anger overChina'spersistent problems with smog.

北京(美联社)——北京官员宣布建立新的环境警察以根除该市的非法燃烧，这是政府就公众抱怨不断的雾霾问题而做出的最新回应。

Beijing's acting mayor, Cai Qi, said at ameetingSaturday that the force would target open-airbarbecues, garbageincineration and the burning ofwood and other biomass, according to China'sofficial Xinhua News Agency.

Cai announced several other measures,including a target of cutting the use of coal by 30percent in 2017, andshutting down 500 higher-polluting factories and upgrading 2,500 more.About300,000 high-pollution vehicles will also be restricted from entering thecapital startingnext month, he said.
