Damaging wind gusts above 100km/h have battered Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia as a strong cold front sweeps across southern Australia.

The cold front travelling across southern parts of the country has come from Western Australia where it caused the strongest winds in about eight years in the state yesterday.

席卷该国南部地区的冷锋来自西澳大利亚，昨天该州遭遇了8年来最强的大风。

It follows Victoria's wettest start to the year on record and Sydney's coldest start to May in two decades.

Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domensino said another blustery front would cross south-eastern parts of the country tomorrow and Saturday, bringing another round of cold, wet and windy weather to multiple states.

"The severe weather from this system, in the form of locally damaging winds, will continue throughout Thursday, gradually easing from west to east," he said.
