The third-generation hybrid rice developed by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice," and his team achieved a new yield record in fields in central China's Hunan province. The new record in Qingzhu village, Hengyang city, one of the hybrid rice's experimental fields, reached 1,603.9 kg per mu.

Hunan is one of the major rice producers in China, and is where farmers plant double-cropping rice.

湖南是中国主要的水稻产地之一，农民种植双季稻。

Among the rice’s output, the yield of early rice came to 667.8 kg per mu in the test fields, and that of late-season rice stood at 936.1 kg per mu.

此次测产验收测得晚稻平均亩产936.1公斤，此前测得的早稻平均亩产667.8公斤。

Last year, the same hybrid rice variety made a double-cropping yield of 1,530.76 kg per mu in a year on the same plot.

去年，第三代杂交水稻在同一实验示范基地双季亩产达到1530.76公斤。

"Surpassing a yield of 1,500 kg per mu in a year on the same plot means the target set by professor Yuan Longping has been realized," said Li Jianwu, a researcher at the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center.

湖南杂交水稻研究中心的研究人员李建武说："同一生态区连续2年双季亩产超过1500公斤，这意味着袁隆平院士生前提出的攻关目标实现了。"

The high yield under unfavorable conditions of the earlier continuous high temperature has shown the varietal has strong adaptability and has laid a good foundation for future promotion, he said.

他表示，在前期持续高温的不利天气下，此次高产结果表明品种的适应性较强，也为下一步推广打下了良好基础。
