一、句子结构的特点

1. 句子短，简单句多，复合句少。 

Peter: Whatsa matter? Upset Stomach? 

Judy: Not really. Just tired. Kids sleep? 

Peter: Not yet. Coffee ready? 

Judy: Inna minute. Tired, honey? 

Peter: A little.

He can’t go. He’s busy. 

(He can’t go because he’s busy.)

The meeting is at the other side of town. We may as well go by bus. It’ll save time.

(Since the meeting is at the other side of town, we may as well go by bus in order to save time.)

2. 很少用分词结构  She stopped when she saw the look on his face. (Seeing the look on his face, she stopped.)

3. 不常用倒装结构

Two of my acquaintances were among those in the group.

(Among those in the group were two of my acquaintances.)

4. 广泛使用省略结构

Are you reading? 

No, I’m not (reading.) 

Let them go if they want to (go).

二. 口语的词汇也有自己的特点

1. 在可以选择时它用浅易而简短的词：

get (obtain)  

glad (content) 

try (attempt)  

lucky (fortune)

real (genuine) 

help (assistance)    

thing, affair:  It’s one of those things you have to expect. The thing is, we haven’t seen the plan yet. What a fine thing that would be! It was quite an impressive affair.

do,have :  Will you have time to do these letters today? (write) Have you done your bed? (made)

She did her hair in a hurry. (combed) I have a cold. (am suffering from) That won’t do.(be acceptable)

Nice, lovely, wonderful:  nice room (cosy), nice time (pleasant), nice weather (fine), nice children (well-behaved ), nice game (interesting)  lovely place (pleasant ), lovely child (cute), lovely time (enjoyable), lovely music (pleasant to the ear), lovely disposition (friendly ), etc.

2. 习语是地道的口语不可缺少的成分之一。

1)短语动词

carry on (continue)  go back (return)     put off (postpone)  make out (understand)   look into (investigate)  turn down (refuse)

2)具有强调作用的某些短语

safe and sound(安全无恙)   odds and ends (零星东西)  out and out

(彻头彻尾的)over and over

again and again  sooner or later  ups and downs

3)比喻性的习语

busy as bee   call a spade a spade(直言不讳)   fit as a fiddle (非常健康)   beat about the bush(转弯抹角)

4)谚语

Two heads are better than one. 

All roads lead to Rome.
