《冉冉孤生竹》是汉代乐府诗歌。该诗或云是婚后夫有远行，妻子怨别之作。然细玩诗意，恐不然。或许是写一对男女已有成约而尚未成婚，男方迟迟不来迎娶，女方遂有种种疑虑哀伤，作出这首感情细腻曲折之诗。此诗也表现了主人公对于感情含蓄的表达，可以看出古代女子的婚姻观和爱情观。

冉冉孤生竹，
结根泰山阿。
与君为新婚，
菟丝附女萝。

菟丝生有时，
夫妇会有宜。
千里远结婚，
悠悠隔山陂。

思君令人老，
轩车来何迟!
复彼蕙兰花，
含英扬光辉。

过时而不采，
将随秋草萎。
亮君执高节，
贱妾亦何为?

To a Husband Far Away

Soft and pliant, the lonely bamboo
Rooted in the mountain;
But, married to you
I am like the dodder clinging to a vine.

As the dodder has its season of growth,
So husband and wife should have time to be together,
Yet a thousand li divide us since we married,
Far-stretching mountain ranges lie between.

Longing for you makes me old before my time,
It seems your covered carriage will never come!
I grieve for the orchid,
So splendid when it flowers,

For unless plucked in time
It will only wither away like the grass in autumn.
What can I do
But trust in your constancy?
