斯宾塞（Edmund Spenser，1552-1599），英国文艺复兴时期重要诗人。早期诗歌作品有《牧人月历》，最重要的诗作《仙女王》带有中世纪的道德讽喻色彩、神秘主义和宗教情绪，同时又充满文艺复兴时期人文主义者对生活的热爱，对理想的追求，对后世诗歌产生深远影响。《爱情小诗》于1595年出版，由88首十四行诗组成，是写给他的未婚妻的。它们沿袭了彼特拉克十四行诗的模式，赞美理想的爱情，歌颂精神与肉体的结合，具有浓郁的人文主义色彩。在韵式上采用交环韵，即abab bcbc cdcd ee，较莎士比亚式要求更严。

正像一只船，横劈大海的波涛，

Lyke as a ship that through the Ocean wyde,

靠一颗星辰的指示，向前疾进，

By conduct of some star doth make her way,

一旦风暴遮没了可靠的引导，

Whenas a storme hath dimd her trusty guyde,

船就会误入迷途，远离航程；

Out of her course doth Wander far astray:

我也有用光芒引导着我的星辰，

So I whose star, that wont with her bright ray

可惜她现在已经被乌云蒙上，

Me to direct, with cloudes is overcast,

我就只得在黑暗和恐惧中独行，

Doe wander now in darknesse and dismay,

在危机四伏的环境里踯躅彷徨；

Through hidden perils round about me plast.

但是，风暴总得过去，我希望

Yet hope I well, that when this storme is past

My Helice the lodestar of my lyfe

会重新亮起来，用那可爱的光芒

Will shine again, and looke on me at last,

扫清我的愁云，再向我垂青；

With lovely light to cleare my cloudy grief .

Till then I wander carefull comfortlesse,

In secret sorow and sad pensivenesse .
