Five Birthday Parties

Where I lived in Europe, birthdays were not as important as name days. Often, a person is expected to bring their own treats or presents on their birthday. On a name day, however, the person is given a delicious cake and maybe even a few presents. A name day is where each day of the year corresponds to a different name. We don't have anything like that in the U.S. Americans, though, think birthdays are a big deal! My 25th birthday was one of the most memorable I've ever had. I celebrated in so many different ways! I had a party with my friends where we ate Mexican food and went bowling. My friends brought me a birthday breakfast. My colleagues had a birthday cake for me at work. Thirteen of my friends gave me a surprise party. And I went on a weekend trip with a friend! I had never celebrated my birthday so many times in one week!
