月球最高监狱，穷凶极恶的伯格罗多星人鲍里斯(杰梅奈·克莱门特饰)越狱逃亡。他在1969年犯下邪恶罪行，最终被年轻的K(乔什·布洛林饰)砍掉一只手臂，送入监狱。此次他逃脱的目的，就是穿越时空杀死K。与此同时，J(威尔·史密斯饰)和K(汤米·李·琼斯饰)一如既往处理各种外星人引起的混乱，因对鲍里斯的案件三缄其口，两个好搭档心生隔阂。
崭新的一天，J发现K消失不见，周围更几乎没人知道K这个人。此时的K已在40年前被鲍里斯杀死，他所建立的A网也不复存在。在这危急时刻，伯格罗多星人大举入侵地球。为了保护家园，J必须穿越时空再次改变历史……
原来鲍里斯越狱后，取得了时空机，回到了1969年，干掉了当时还没有太多经验的K，因而使得K没能成功设置空间A网以保护地球。没有A网的保护，地球将毁灭。而为了阻止鲍里斯的计划，J只有穿越回1969年，去拯救年轻的K。
一番周折之后，J终于见到了年轻的K，并告知了他许多相关的事实;两人又开始了合作。历经麻烦，他们最终见到了五维空间的高级生命格里芬(迈克尔·斯图巴饰)。这个外星人可不一般，能够预知各种可能的未来。格里芬给了他们A网，告知他们要安装A网，必须把它射上太空。
三人只好去火箭发射平台，赶在阿波罗登月前把A网装在火箭上。在遭遇发射区的军警时，格里芬告诉他们“必须说实话”才可以拯救地球。于是军警逮捕了他们，押送到管制区的主管那里问话。这时格里芬突然挺身而出，让主管看到了自己的未来，改变了他的心意。于是主管决心帮助他们。这时老鲍里斯和小鲍里斯都赶来了，准备把K杀掉。J奋力打败了老的鲍里斯，把他丢下了火箭平台;K奋力打败了小鲍里斯，而且正如他当年做的一样——斩去了他的一只手。A网也成功地安在了火箭上，地球保住了。但是小鲍里斯并没有死;他又杀了出来。J正以为这就是K必定的命运时，管制区主管挺身而出，牺牲了自己救下K;小鲍里斯以为K 会逮捕他，可是K当机立断把鲍里斯打成了碎渣，但无奈主管却已经死去了。
这时，一个黑人小孩詹姆斯跳下吉普跑了过来，到处问爸爸在哪里，殊不知爸爸已经牺牲了。J一眼就知道了，那正是1969年时童年的自己。K难以向孩子启齿真相，于是消除了他有父亲的记忆。J终于伤心地明白了为什么一直不记得自己的父亲，也明白了为什么总部向他隐瞒这个案件详实资料的原因。
回到了2012年，天空还是一样蓝，K还是老搭档。一切都恢复了正常，J颇感欣慰。(来源：百度百科)
