"American Slang: At the Market My name is Megan Brach. I've been teaching English as a second language for four years. Learning English isn't fast, nor is it easy but I'm going to help you get started. Are you ready? Let's learn English. So now I'm going to introduce three slang expressions that you can use while shopping at the market. First, rip off. A rip off is when you pay too much for what something's worth. For example, paying $10 for that organic watermelon is a rip off. Next, pick up. Pick up simply means to buy. I need to go to the market to pick up some milk. And lastly, to die for. To die for means very, very good. For example, the blueberry pie here is to die for. So these are three slang expressions you can use when you're shopping at the market."
