Let's clear the air.和好吧！

职场中常有争取表现、冲刺业绩、开发客户等机会，如果遇到竞争对手事后仍愤愤不平，不妨用以下3句话劝慰对方：

1 　Let's clear the air.　我们和解吧。

解析：clear the air字面意思是“清净空气”，另一层意思则是指“透过对话，化解心结或疙瘩”。理性对话，往往是帮助对方纾解内心不满的良策。

例：

If you want to clear the air between you and your team members, you have to talk to them personally.（如果你想化解与组员们之间的心结，就必须亲自找他们沟通。）

2 　to bury the hatchet　言归于好

解析：hatchet是一种短柄小斧，北美印第安人用来当武器或工具。把斧头埋起来，象征“休战、尽释前嫌、重修旧好”。竞争已经结束，再怎么争论也改变不了什么，应该休战了。

例：

For the peace of the office, the marketing manager and the R&D head bury the hatchet.（营销经理与研发主管为了办公室的安宁，化干戈为玉帛。）

3 　to pour oil on troubled waters　平息事态

解析：把油倒在不平静的水面，便可以锁住波涛，意指“调解争端、平息争吵”。也许只是为对方倒杯茶，主动跟对方握个手，小小动作就能缓和高涨的激情。

例：

That angry customer is out of control. You need to ask your supervisor to pour oil on troubled waters.（那位生气的客户已经失控了，你必须请你的主管出面解决。）
