Light snow and sleet fell in Beijing Saturday morning, breaking the city's longest dry spell in at least 47 years, according to the municipal meteorological observatory.
3月17日，北京出现小雪和雨夹雪天气。市气象部门表示，本次降雪结束了北京至少47年以来最长的干旱记录。
Dry spell指“干旱期”，这里的spell意为“一段时间”，比如，hot spell(连续高温天气)，a spell of summer heat(持续一段时间的炙热天气)等。
As of Friday, the capital had recorded 145 consecutive days without "effective precipitation" .
截止3月16日，北京连续无有效降水日数已经达145天。
有效降水(effective precipitation)指的是日降水量大于或等于0.1毫米(precipitation of more than 0.1 mm in one day)。据南郊观象台的记录，当日上午9点，北京市城区的平均降水量为0.3毫米。
