[00:09.05]they should be classified

[00:10.52]as psychiatric disorders,say scientists

[00:16.02]The researchers interviewed 290 Dutch primary

[00:19.38]school children aged between eight and thirteen

[00:22.73]20 percent of them were beset with worries

[00:25.40]so serious that

[00:27.08]they limited their ability to lead normal lives

[00:30.52]reports The Daily Mail.

[00:32.48]Many had trouble sleeping;

[00:34.24]some were afraid to leave their homes;

[00:36.90]others had problems

[00:37.78]interacting with their peers.

[00:40.54]"Nobody is really sure exactly why this is,

[00:43.87]but these disorders are caused by children

[00:46.73]internalising their anxiety,"

[00:48.79]said child psychiatrist Peter Muris.

[00:51.98]"This could be caused by parents being away

[00:54.15]from their children for long periods

[00:56.59]or by children being stressed at school.

[00:59.30]A partent who does not spend time with their

[01:01.56]child could miss out on the fact that

[01:03.79]the child has the problem,

[01:05.68]meaning it can go untreared and get worse."
