but I bet some of you grew up with single mothers or fathers

Maybe you came here from Africa or Caribbean

Maybe you are the first in your family to go to college like I was
也许你也是家里第一个考上大学的 就像我一样
Maybe there were times that you

didn't have a place to live or no food to eat

You see, the odds were against you
各种条件都对你非常不利
the odds were against you making it here today

But guess what? You did it

You put this day on your calendar

You overcame the odds

You made a decision and you saw that decision due
