词组作状语时也不少。最常见的有下面几类：
1.名词和它的修饰语：
It weighs almost a ton.
它几乎有一吨重。
I shall stay another five monnths.
我将再待五个月。
We have to walk a long walk to the station.
到车站我们得走一大截路。
2.名词或副词+介词短语：
Theory must go hand in hand with practice.
理论必须与实际相结合。
Not long aftert that, he got married.
不久之后他就结婚了。
3.副词和它的修饰语：
The train arrived ten minutes late.
火车晚点十分钟。
We have to change to the No. 3 trolley a few stops further on .
再过几站我们得转三路无轨。
They live a long way off.
他们的住处离这里很远。
4.由连词and 连接的两个平行的词：
They drove night and day for three days.
他们一连三天日夜开车。
The man talked on and on.
那人没完没了地谈。
It rained off and on all day.雨断断续续下了一天。
5.其他形式：
She dived in head first.
她头朝下跳进水里。
The picture was hung upside down.那张画挂倒了。
有不少状语的成语属于这一类，如hand in hand, side by side, heart and soul, day after day, day in day out, the other day, all ( the ) year round, year after year, year in year out 等。
