People say you can change your career thirty,that's when you meant to be settling down.

You can't change your career at 35, you should have had it figured out by then. oh my god you are not married at 38？what the hell are you doing with your life.

你不可能在35岁的时候改变你的职业生涯，你应该意识到这一点。天啊，你知道38岁还没结婚吗？你的生活到底在做什么？

Who Comes up with this stuff?I have no idea, This stuff plagues so many people, that I speak to.

谁提出来这些观点？我不知道， 同我交谈的人中有很多人被这样的事情折磨着。

So many people open up to me and say Jay I just don't know how to change ，is it possible？what do you think this guy was before he became who he is? he used to be a P.E. teacher. right? sports teacher .At a high school.

许多人敞开心扉对我说：Jay，我就是不知道该如何改变，我有可能改变吗？你们觉得这个男人以前是做什么的？他是一名体育老师，一名高中的体育老师。

How about her? She was a telemarketer for two weeks.

她呢？她做过两周的网上销售工作。

how about her? She applied to be a funeral director.

that's incredible.

What happens in society is that we`re clouded by the noise.

当今社会，我们被噪音包围着。

The noise of family expectations ,the noise of our parents ,the noise of our brothers and sisters expectations.

家人的期盼,父母的教诲，兄弟姐妹的影响。

I grew up in a family where you could either be a doctor ,a lawyer, or a failure. Right？

我长大在一个家庭，在那里你乐意成为一个医生，一个律师，或者一个失败者。好吧。

Those were my three options. Anything else would just count me as failure . I would have failure ,so basically ,I failed . right， I'm standing up here in front of you all ,as a failure.

这就是我的三个选择，做其他任何事情，都会被认为是一个失败者。基本上，我也确实失败了，今天我站在你们所有人面前，也是以一个失败者的身份。

I lived as a monk for three years. I committed career suicide .I turned down two amazing corporate job offers. when I graduated from business school. I shaved my hair, I wore robes ，and lived out of a gym locker for three years.

我当过三年僧人，我放弃了事业，当我从商学院毕业的时候，我拒接了两家特别好的公司的工作邀请。我剃了头发，穿上了长袍，在外边过了三年没有健身的生活。

And I did that, because I thought I was going to do something meaningful , help impact the world. And it was one one of the best experiences of my life.

我当初那么做，是因为我想做一些有意义的事情，来帮助影响世界。那是我一生之中最美好的时光之一。

But more than becoming a monk, what that trained me to do was drop out with the rules.

但是比当一个僧人更重要的是，它教会了我抛开规则。

People told me ，if you come back in three years, you`ll never get a job, they told me, if you become a monk, People are going to thing you`re weird forever .No girl is ever going to talk to you!

人们告诉我，如果你三年后回来，你会找不到工作，他们还说，如果你成了僧人，人们就永远觉得你怪怪的，就不会有女孩愿意和你说话。

People told me, well, when you come back to real life. Like will you even be able to talk English? And people were just really weirded out.

人们告诉我，当你回到现实生活当中，比方说,你还会说英语吗?人们会感到纳闷。

I`m just like, Okay I think monks speak English.

我说，好吧，我觉的僧人就是说英语的。

And there was so much different noises that I'm hearing when I made that decision.

我那时听到很多不同的声音，当我做出那个决定的时候。

And the funny thing is ，from having not been a monk for 4 years now, I am in one of the most incredible period of my life that I could ever have asked for.

有趣的是，还俗4年到现在，我处于人生曾经最渴求的阶段之一。

And so much of that is based on the fact what I decided to do something different. So many of the times are expectations are driving us in a certain scenario, we focus so much on life in what we want to be ，as opposed to who we want to be.

而这些都基于这样一个事实，我要做与众不同的事情。所以大多时候，期望在某种情况下驱动着我们。我们专注于在生活中，我们想成为什么，而不是成为谁。

Because we've always been told that, life and jobs and careers are like boxes and containers, There's only a finite number of options. There is no formula, There is no pattern.

因为我们总是被告知，生活，工作，事业像盒子和箱子。只有一些有限的选择。没有公式，没有模式。

If you know what you're passionate about ? if you know what you're good at? and you invest in that.

如果你知道哦自己的激情是什么？如果你知道自己擅长什么？并投身其中。

People say ，follow your passions， I say ，forget that, invest your passions.

有人说要追随你的激情，我说，忘掉这个，要投资你的激情，

If you're passionate about something, go and become the best at it, go and do a course on it, go and learn from the best. Go and find a mentor who is going to make you Incredible at that trait. Not only will you be criticized and grow, you will be able to find new things about yourself that you never knew.

如果你对某事有激情，那就变得精通干这件事，去学习相关的课程，从精英哪里学习，去寻找良师益友，他们会让你拥有不可思议的特质。你不仅会被批评，成长，而且会发现自身新的特点。

Don't trade who you are for who you think the world needs, because world need you to be you, and I mean that.

不要让自己成为你觉得世界需要的人，因为这个世界需要你做你自己，这就是我的意思。
