feast

n. /fiːst/

a special meal with very good food or a large meal for many people

盛宴;宴会

例：

"What a feast!" she said, surveying all the dishes on the table.

“多丰盛的宴席啊!”她一边打量着桌上的菜肴，一边说道。

a wedding feast 婚宴

 

  banquet

 

n. /ˈbæŋ.kwɪt/

a large formal meal for many people, often followed by speeches in honour of someone

(正式的)宴会

例：

Medieval banquets are held in the castle once a month.

每月在城堡中举行一次中世纪风格的宴会。

所以“a banquet”一般是指那种非常正式的宴会，举行人数较多且规模大，一般还有人致词，比如说state banquet(国宴)，victory banquet(庆功宴)等。当然如果像王室婚礼那样，规模很大，很隆重，我们也可以用 wedding banquet 来形容。

leftover

n. /ˈleftˌəʊ.vər/

food remaining after a meal

剩饭，剩菜

例：

This recipe can serve four easily, and the leftovers are just as good eaten cold.

这份食谱足够4人享用，剩下的可作冷食。

 

  bento

 

便当=bento

便当一词最早源于中国南宋时期的俗语“便当”，

本意是“便利的东西、方便、顺利”，

一词传入日本后，曾以“便道”、“辨道”、“辨当”等表记，

后反传入中国由日语“弁当”(音：bentou)音译

其专指盒装餐食，更多已简化翻译成Bento了。

例：

A: What did you have for lunch?

B: I had a sushi bento.
