通常情况下使用这个说法时前半句话会加上某些让你注意的内容，比如，“If you forget to do your homework, you're history.”前半句话在说”如果你忘记写作业的话，你就……”。我们大概可以猜出来说话者有警告的意思在，再延伸一下“history历史”的意思，也就是差不多等于“过去的、现在不存在”的意思，所以其实you're history有点类似于中文里的“你死定了、你不再重要了”。

字面意思：其余的都是历史，实际表示：接下来的事就世人皆知了。如果老外告诉你一件事，当他介绍完前面的情况之后，说“the rest is history”，他的意思是：接下来发生的大家都已经知道了。
