    Unit 2

    Section I

    Task 1

Man: Zoe, how can you eat so many of those?

Zoe: Oh, I don’t eat that many. I just eat a few every day. They’re my favorite snack.

Man: But there’s so much salt on those things, and a lot of fat. That’s not good for

    you.

Zoe: Actually, there’s no salt on these. I buy the unsalted kind. And I read that they’re

    good for your heart.

    Task 2

Woman: Catherine, is that your second dish?

Catherine: Yeah, it is. I really love this stuff. It’s my favorite dessert.

Woman: Yeah. Well, I wouldn’t eat so much. It has too much fat.

Catherine: I know, you’re right. It’s not very healthy. But I just love it. I eat some

three or four times a week. It’s so good. There’s nothing like it!

    Task 3

Man: What’s that on your shirt, Josh?

Josh: Oh, . . . it’s some tomato sauce. You know, I really love this stuff—it’s my

favorite snack—but it’s a little difficult to eat. I eat it every Friday, after class, and I

usually get some on my clothes.

Man: Well, there’s too much tomato sauce and not enough cheese. I like a lot of

    cheese.

Josh: Actually, I like lots of vegetables on mine. That way, it’s a healthy snack.

    Section II

    Task 1

Luigi: Hey, Josh. I’m exhausted! I stayed up late last night to finish my project.

Josh: When did you start it?

Luigi: Actually, I started it two weeks ago, but I changed my topic last week.

Josh: Why did you do that?

Luigi: Well, I started to write about mountain climbing, but I really didn’t think it was

    very interesting.

Josh: So, what did you choose for a new topic?

Luigi: The Apollo 11 flight to the moon.

Josh: Cool! Where did you get your information?

Luigi: I got it at the library. I found some great books and an interesting website about

Neil Armstrong. He was the first person to walk on the moon.

    Task 2

    Charlotte: Hello! Anyone home?

    Andy: We’re in the kitchen.

    Charlotte: You'll never guess what?

    Andy and Richard: What?

Charlotte: I just found this wallet outside on the pavement . . . And it’s got five

    hundred pounds cash in it!

Richard: No way! Yep, five hundred pounds.

Andy: That’s a lot of money! I’ll be pretty upset if I lost that!

Charlotte: What do you think I should do with it?

Andy: Is there any identification inside?

Charlotte: No, that's the thing, no. I've looked and I can't find any at all . . .

Andy: No, you're right, there's nothing.

Charlotte: What would you do if you were me?

Richard: If I were you, I'd keep it!

Andy: You can't do that. That's wrong. I’d definitely take it to the police station.

    Richard: What about finders keepers?

Charlotte: Oh, I just don't know what to do. I could really do with the cash but

keeping it feels so wrong. I wish I'd never found it now!

Charlotte: Hang on! What's this? West bridge Sports Center, membership number

    45087, J. Abrahams.

Andy: That's the sports center round the corner, isn't it?

Charlotte: You're right! That settles it, I'll take it back tomorrow.

Andy: You're doing the right thing. I'd do the same.

Richard: Oh, I hope you get a big reward!

Charlotte: That would be good! But for now I think I'll just settle for a cup of tea. One

sugar please, Richard! Oh, so relieved! Feel exhausted.

    Section III

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. My father was from Kenya and my mother was

American. My parents met in 1960 at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where my

father was a foreign student. They got married on February 2, 1961 but separated

when I was only two years old and got divorced in 1964. My father returned to

Kenya and I only saw him once more before he died in a car accident in 1982.
