① involve有“必然包含着”的意思，指必须含有的情况或涉及的人或事。

Success involves hard work. 成功来自辛劳。

The mistake will involve you in a great deal of trouble. 这个错误将给你带来许多麻烦。

Taking the job involves living abroad. 接受这项工作就一定要住在国外。

② comprise为正式用语，其主语既可以指整体，谓语用单数，后面的宾语指主语的全部内容；其主语也可以指个体，谓语用复数，后面的宾语为整体。

The committee comprises five persons. 委员会由5人组成。

Twenty articles comprises Book One. 第一册共有20课。

③ constitute表示由部分组成整体，主语是组成部分，宾语是整体。

Twelve months constitute a year. 12个月为一年。

④ include其宾语所包含的仅是整体的一部分，不一定全部列出成分。

The tour includes a visit to Paris. 旅行包括游览巴黎。

Your duty will include cleaning the house. 你的职责包括打扫房舍。

⑤ consist of的主语是整体，宾语为组成部分，同 constitute 相反。

The machine consists of many parts. 这台机器由许多部分组成。
