① prevent sb. from+动名词表示“阻止某人……，禁止某人……”。

② 在现代英语中，prevent sb./sth. from doing sth. 和stop sb./sth. from doing sth. 中的from常可省略，但用于被动语态时，from不可省。而keep sb./sth. from doing sth. 中的from 不可省。

Nothing will keep her from doing it. 什么也不能阻止她做那件事。

Who can stop you （from）going if you want to go？如果你要去，谁又阻止得了呢？

The rain prevented me to go there.

The rain prevented me （from）going there.

下雨使我无法去那儿。

We were kept by the rain from going there. 下雨使我们不能去那儿。（from不可省）

③ forbid表示“禁止”，结构为：forbid sb.+to do sth.，be forbidden to do sth.。

They were forbidden to enter the hotel. 他们被禁止进入旅馆。
