条件状语从句主要由if, unless, supposing (suppose), provided（providing）这几个从属连词引导。比如：I must leave if that's the case./I will agree to go provided (providing) (that) my expenses are paid.

在条件状语从句中，除了if, unless等常用的连词之外，as long as, so long as, in case, even if 都可以起连词作用。比如：You will always have a home as long as I have anything./They'll stand by you even if you don't succeed.

引导目的状语从句的连词主要有in order that, so that, so, that, lest等词。比如：Can't you fix it somehow so you could stay longer?/He hid the money lest it should be stolen.

引导目的状语从句时，so that表示"以便；为了"，从句中常使用can/could/may/might/will/would/should等情态动词或助动词。比如：Ask her to hurry up with the letters so that I can sign them.

需要注意的是，so that除了引导目的状语从句之外，还可以引导结果状语从句。只是这时候，从句中一般不用can和may等词，在so that前可以用逗号，意思是"因此，所以"。如：She bought a digital camera online, so that she would save a lot of time.
