结果状语从句主要由so...that和such...that引导。比如：He was so young that you must excuse him./Jim made such a noise that his sister told him to be quiet.

如果"so＋形容词或副词＋that..."引导肯定的结果状语从句，那么这一结构的意思是"如此......以至于......"。如：The sunshine is so beautiful that I'd like to go swimming in the sea.如果"so＋形容词或副词＋that..."引导否定的结果状语从句，意思是"如此......以至于不能......"。如：He was so fat that he couldn't get though the door.

在连接一个表示结果的状语从句时，such...that作"如此......以至于"解，与so...that意思相同，但用法不同。比如：so...that这一结构中，so后边可加形容词或副词，而such后边要用名词（这个名词前面可以带形容词，也可以不带）：He shut the window with such force that the glass broke.

虽然such后面需要跟名词，但如果such后边的名词前有many、much、few、little等词修饰，这时候就不能用such，而是改用so了。例如：He had so many falls that he was black and blue all over.
